Transfer a Domain from GoDaddy
Last Updated 6 years ago

Step 1: Update Contact Information for Domain

The contact information for your domain needs to be up-to-date so that the EPP/Authorization Code can be emailed to you. To update your contact information:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Place a check mark in the box next to the domain you wish to transfer.
  5. In the Domains menu bar, select Contacts > Contact Information.
  6. When the new window pops up, review and/or update the contact information for accuracy. There are four tabs to review:
  7. Registrant
  8. Administrative
  9. Billing
  10. Technical
Click OK when your changes are complete. If you have privacy protection enabled on the domain, you will need to follow the instructions in the following article:  Updating Contact Information for Domain Names with Privacy

Step 2: Remove Privacy Protection from the Domain

If privacy protection is enabled on the domain name when the transfer request is initiated, the domain transfer will automatically fail. All WHOIS information must be publically visible in order for the transfer to go through successfully.

Privacy protection can be removed by logging into your DomainsByProxy account and following the instructions in the following article:
Canceling Private Registration for Your Domain Names

Step 3: Unlock the Domain

If the domain name is locked, the transfer request will automatically fail as the domain must be unlocked prior to initiating the transfer. To unlock the domain:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Place a check mark in the box of the domain you wish to unlock.
  5. In the Domains menu bar, click the Lock icon.
  6. In the pop-up, click Off.
  7. Click Save.

Step 4: Request EPP/Authorization Code

Most domain registrars require an EPP/authorization code in order to transfer a domain name. This provides an extra layer of security and protects against unauthorized transfers. To request an EPP/authorization code:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Click on the domain name that you wish to get the code for.
  5. In the Settings tab, navigate to the Authorization Code section.
  6. Click the Email my code link.
  7. In the pop-up, click Send.
When you receive the transfer code in your email, you are ready to continue.

Step 5: Submit Domain Name Transfer Request to Nexus Internet Services

Once you have your EPP code, you should be ready to transfer your domain name to Nexus Internet Services.

  1. Go to the Nexus Internet Services domain transfer form at https://secure.nexus-iservices.com/transfers.php
  2. Click Next to begin the transfer
  3. Enter your domain details in the Find a Domain field, and select the appropriate extension (.com, .net, etc.) from the drop-down menu. If your domain name extension can not be found, you will not be able to use the transfer form to process your request. You will need to contact our support department with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange the transfer.
  4. Enter the EPP/authorization code you received from GoDaddy.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Click Checkout to begin the checkout process.
  7. Click Purchase to confirm the purchase
  8. Enter your credit card information and click Purchase. If you cannot pay with credit card, this step will not work for you. Instead, please contact our support department with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange payment.

Step 6: Approve the Transfer of the Domain Name to Nexus Internet Services

After a few hours, you should receive an email from GoDaddy confirming that your domain transfer request was received. This is a typical security measure. You will need to approve the transfer in your GoDaddy control panel; otherwise, your transfer may take up to 7 days to complete.

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. From the top, green menu bar, click Domains > Transfers.
  5. Select the check box next to your transferred domain, and click the Accept/Decline button in the top toolbar.
  6. Choose Accept, and click OK.
  7. You will receive an email from Nexus Internet Services once the transfer is complete. If you have not heard from Nexus Internet Services after seven (7) days, please contact us to inquire about your transfer status.

Unfortunately, Nexus' support team can not help you with the GoDaddy side of things, but if you have problems with our side, please feel free to open a support ticket.
