The very first thing to do is stop sending email. Shut down your mail services (qmail, Postfix, Sendmail, etc...)
Next, check your pending mail queue. (qmHandle for qmail, postqueue -p for Postfix, mailq for Sendmail, etc..)
Check your mail logs for incoming emails with lots of recipients. This could indicate an open relay condition that needs to be resolved. Check for open relays by using free services such as services such as MailRadar.com's Open Relay Test
